Where Did Summer Go?

How is already almost September??!! Wow! Summer flew by for us as we were feverishly working and baking, a little nose surgery for me, doggie paddling in the pool, taking a summer vacation, meeting new friends...and figuring out what's going on at my house with my mom's stomach growing pretty quickly, new furniture being placed and itty-bitty clothes being put away (that I'd for sure like to get my paws and teeth on)!

I love summer vacation!
Anyway, it's been busy and I'm sorry I haven't put my paws on the keyboard in a while with all the excitement. But, I'm still here and ready to put your treats together as we move in to the fall season - one of our favorites!

Until tomorrow, our "Southern Summer" treats (with super healthy and yummy blueberries) are the Treat of the Month (TotM), so order one pound TODAY ($12) to take advantage of a 1/2-pound for FREE!

It's a hard job, but someone's gotta do it!
Also, watch out for our upcoming September TotM and what's coming for the holidays.

Saying goodbye to summer,

Amos

Think About it Thursday!

Mother's Day is just a few days away! Now, I don't mean to be presumptuous here, but I think most of you who are reading this may just be pet owners yourselves and know what it means to take care of us four-legged beings. It's not always a walk in the park, I know.

However, Mother's Day traditionally is only celebrated for those ladies who have delivered two-legged children that run around and pull our tails, try to ride on our backs, put us in funny clothes, give us things we shouldn't eat...and on and on. I am a strong, male dog, so can not even pretend to know what that's like - as a dog or as a human.

But, what I DO know is that I had a four-legged mother that delivered me and I want someone to help her to feel special on this upcoming Mother's Day. And, I now have a two-legged mother that pretty much treats me like her own flesh and blood (I would not want it any other way).

She makes sure I am fed (and with all the proper delicious things, I might add), have clean water to drink, that I am bathed and groomed, brushed, played with/walked several times daily to get all my energy out and get good exercise, and lovingly gives me medication when I am sick. She washes my bed regularly so I stay clean and comfortable, she cleans my ears and puts in ear drops twice a day because I have floppy ears that get infections easily (and, I just happen to love to put them in water whenever I find it), she holds my face in her hands and kisses the top of my head and tells me she loves me, she scratches my back, she massages my front leg when I wake up from a long nap and am limping, she says, "Good Night, Bubba" every night before she falls asleep.

I don't know about you, but I call that a good mother, fur or not.  And although I try to show her my love by licking her face or feet, or sometimes I go all out and hug her leg (I don't think she likes either of those for some reason, though), all I know is that I want someone to honor her on this day for me, because she takes care of me like no one else.

So, if you have a lady in your life that may not have human kids, do not forget her just because she may "only" have fur kids. I guarantee she puts a lot of love, care, time, money and commitment in to them. THINK ABOUT IT!

From me and all my buddies...thanks, moms!!!

Think About It Thursday!

What do you think about when you buy your dog's treats?

Is it cost/what's least expensive? Is it the list of ingredients (if you look, what do you look for)? Is it just the kind they've always eaten? Do you just not buy them any at all because they're really picky eaters?

As humans, we have gotten used to purchasing what is often times cheapest and easiest to put in our bodies. Of course, that then falls over to what we feed our dogs. But, in the end, it results in unhealthy bodies with high disease probability, weight problems and more for all of us.

If we want less veterinarian visits and less health problems for our dogs, we have to be cognisant of what they're eating - even the little fun treats.

So, think about what your dog's treats should be (not cost) next time you buy them:
  • Tailored - your dog may have specific needs that differ from other dogs. Do you know what they are? Whole-wheat sounds great, but not if your dog is sensitive to wheat. Being able to customize what your dog needs should help you make your decision about their treats.
  • Fresh - they may not last as long, you say. That's right. There's a great reason for that! They're...
  • All-Natural - they don't contain any preservatives, chemicals, artificial flavors, colorings, things that make them "look" better or last for a year, but will only do harm. Only treats with fresh, all-natural ingredients used, with no processing, are best for your dog.
Organic carrots, spinach and eggs - only the freshest healthiest ingredients in our treats!
    Think about it!
